After seeing 12 Years a Slave, I was truly appreciative of the storyline and took a hit emotionally. When I initially watched it, I was shocked to see how accurately they have portrayed the true horrors of slavery. The film is about a man named Solomon Northup, who was sold into slavery illegally and the brutality that he had to go through
The way Chiwetel Ejiofor played the role of Solomon is truly spectacular. His expressions evoke a lot of emotions in us that gets planted in our mind long after the movie has even ended. The story of Lupita Nyong’o’s character Patsey also moved me to tears.
Steve McQueen has not done an amazing job from not shying away from the brutality and the true nature of slavery. The way the film was shot was perfect to portray the story line. Some people may find the pacing a bit slow, but it felt purposeful and allowed enough time for the seriousness of the events to sink in. I will always remember this masterpiece
